The first impression that you get with the numbers is that the number in the middle is the result of the difference of the 2 numbers around that, but since 7 does not match this logic we need to re-work the rule.
The actual rule is that the number in the middle is the sum of the digits of the numbers around it.
Let test this rule for all the numbers in the picture;
(72, 99) => 7 + 2 + 9 + 9 = 27 (number in middle)
Similarly, let’s see if the rule works out for the other numbers;
(27, 45) => 2 + 7 + 4 + 5 = 18
(18, 39) => 1 + 8 + 3 + 9 = 21
Let’s find the missing number with the help of this rule;
(21, 36) => 2 + 1 + 3 + 6 = 12;
Let’s see if this check’s out with the last numbers following the missing number.
(12, 28) => 1 + 2 + 2 + 8 = 13
(13, 21) => 1 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 7
Answer = 12.
