how many times would you have written the number 5?

Answer:

If you count mentally you can say the following;

As the digit in thousandth place it will appear 100 times. (500 to 599)

Then as a digit in tens place it will appear 10 times (550 to 559)

As a digit in units place it will appear 10 times (5, 15,25….95)

Hence the total number of 5s are;

100 + 10 + 10 = 120

Therefore;

Answer = 120.
