Answer:
The riddle says, 3 Boys can eat 3 burgers each in 3 minutes.
So each boy has 1 burger in 1 minute.
Now each boy will have 10 burgers in 10 minutes.
So 10 boys will have 100 burgers in 10 minutes.
10/3*10/3*3 = 100/3 = 33.33 burgers as per ratio and proportion.
Your question isn’t clear. Three boys eat three burgers in three minutes simply suggests that each takes three minutes for a burger. Look, there are three burgers, and three boys(means each boys has one burger.), and the given time is three minutes. I hope you will reform the question, you must, anyways!
I agree with chi and joshua. The problem ought to used either average or each.. that way the problem would have been very clear. But without average or each it will be difficult to choose which way to go. it is still not bad, we all make mistakes. In math, there is no wrong answer, we make mistakes. yet when do mistakes, we must learn from it. thanks
correction: I did a mistake in my first solution. I apologize. In math we do not have wrong answers, instead we make mi stakes. But one should learn from your mistakes. The method employed to solve the burger problem is not general. It works only for the this particular problem. My method of approach is general and one can use it to solve the problem correctly if they vary the amount of burgers. lets say if we change the 3 burgers to 7 burgers of 13 burgers. That method will not be suitable anymore. Here is my general method and correction to the problem. I am a little disappointed because no one could point out my mistake.
solution:
if 3 boys can eat 3 burgers in 3 minutes
1 boy will eat the same 3 burgers in (3 x 3)/3 = 3 minutes
then, 10 boys will eat the same 3 burgers in 3/10 = 0.3 minutes
Now, we have calculated the rate at which the 10 boys will be eating the burgers
set up a proportion:
3 burgers_____________0.3 minutes
x burgers_____________10 minutes
next, we cross multiply;
0.3 x = 3 x 10 = 30
x = 30/0.3 = 300/10 ( that is multiplying top and bottom by 10 to get rid of the decimal point)
x = 100 burgers…. cool
Ur answer of 100 is wrong sir.. the riddle doesnt say each. So the answer is 33.3 or jst say 33 burgers cos we rnt gonna divide almost eaten burger by 3.
You are right Chi… as per the riddle..
Very true they havent used the word each. The correct answer with the given wording of the question is 33.33 to be precise.
I don’t think the answer is right, because the question mentioned in the answer is different. The word EACH makes a big different.
The answer is right if the word each is really there (or mentioned 3 boys eat 9 burgers). But if not:
3 BOYS – EATS – 3 BURGERS – in 3 Minutes.
So, each eats only 1 in 3 minutes.
Then, if so, 10 boys will eat 10 burgers in 3 minutes.
in 10 minutes: 10/3 * 10 = 33.34… (well yes, the answer is weird, so adding each to the question will make it).
Good explanation
THE ANSWER IS ONLY 30 WHOLE SANDWISHES.
IN 9 MIN EACH BOY CAN EAT 3 WHOLE SANDWISHES ..THE REMAINING 1 MINUTE ONE BOY CAN EAT 1/3 OF A SANDWISH AND FRACTION OF ONE SANDWISH IS NOT COUNTED . SO IN 10 MINUTES EACH BOY EAT 3 SANDWISHES , AND THE 10 BOYS WILL EAT 30 SANDWISHES IN 10 MINUTES.
