Fun Brain Teasers: How Many Chicken And Cows Does the Farmer Have?

Grab a pen and paper and solve this.

A farmer had some cows and chicken on his farm.

The total number of animals was 30.

If you know that the sum of legs of all the animals was 74.

Can you find out the number of chicken and cows on the farm?

Answer:

To solve this let us,

name the number of cows as C;

and number of Chickens or hens as H.

We can write 2 equations using the information above.

C + H = 30 ……………………….(1)

4C + 2H = 74…………………….(2)

Multiplying 2 on both sides of (1) we get;

2C + 2H = 60 ……………………(3)

To find C lets subtract (2) and (3);

4C + 2H = 74.
– 2C – 2H = -60

2C + 0 = 14;

Therefore;

C = 7.

Substituting value of C in (1)

7 + H = 30

Therefore;

H = 23

So the number of cows = 7 and number of Chicken = 23.
