If you look prudently then you will see that 5 match sticks lay ahead of the lighter and you can see the same in the reflection of the lighter.
Behind the lighter there are 3 match sticks, these 3 look as if they are part of the reflection in the lighter, but since they are emerging our from behind there has to be 3 match sticks behind.
So 5 + 3 = 8 match sticks in the picture.

Wrong. There’s a 9th one. Look at the top right of the lighter and see the reflection of a 9th matchstick.
Can only be sure of 5.

At first I guessed 8 also, but I can’t be sure that two of them have wicks, therefore I can’t confirm they are ‘matchsticks’, so you could say 6 and not be wrong.
