Answer to the Bank Riddle: 83
Explanation:
As per the problem, this is what happens
Day 1: +3
Day 2: +3
Day 3: -4
So at the end of 3 days you have 3 + 3 – 4 = 6 – 4 = 2;
Therefore Rs.2 are collected in the account every 3 days
If we group the 3 consecutive days into one single unit, then
In one unit, total amount in your account = 3 + 3 – 4 = 2
So you would jump to 90 days (30 x 3) as the answer but since we withdraw Rs.4 on every third day the balance will reach Rs.60 much before that.
On first 2 days since we deposit 3+3 = 6 in the account we will have to calculate when it reaches Rs.54
So, total amount in your account will reach 54 after = 54/2 = 27 units
Now, 27 units = 27*3 = 81 days
In the next two days, you deposit 3 + 3 = 6 Rs. into your account, giving you a total of 54 + 6 = 60
Hence, days to get Rs. 60 in your account = 81 + 2 = 83.
Answer = 83
