Logical Riddle: Find The Minimum Times Will You Have To Weigh To Find The Lighter Block?

There are nine metal blocks.
1 metal block is slightly lighter than the other 8.
If you have a balance scale find the minimum times will you have to weigh to find the lighter block?

Choose any six blocks and place three on each side. If they weigh the same than the block is not among those six. If one side is lighter it is among those three.
Next you choose any two blocks from the remaining pile of chosen three and weigh them against each other. If they weigh the same then the third block is the lightest. If they don’t weigh the same than the lighter of the two is the lightest block.
